Welcome to my pseudo kind-of blog where I’m hoping to occasionally share insights into my writing process, works-in-progress and the wider literary/publishing world. Not entirely sure how frequently I’ll be writing, but setting up a page is at least a start… I think.
Anyway, it’s the beginning of another writing year and I must say my writing world remains somewhat in a state of flux. 2019 was a bit weird and far from business-as-usual. Though I continued to write and my agent continued to submit my stories to publishers around the world, so far none of them have found a home. Hopefully I shall get my mojo back in 2020, or the publishing world will rediscover my particular charms.
On a more positive note, my memoir/autobiography has been accepted by PenguinRandomHouse with a scheduled release date early 2021.
Given the current publishing climate I’m once again contemplating self-publishing a couple of things this year, including a rather personal picture book story reflecting my experience being trans as a kid, and a slightly dark middle-grade adventure story – think Enid Blyton’s Famous Five meets Edgar Allan Poe. My enthusiasm for possible self-publishing waxes and wanes a bit, I have to admit, so there’s certainly no guarantee I’ll proceed. Ideally a publisher will decide to take my stories after all and relieve me of the effort, time and stress the self-publishing process requires. (Especially stressful for someone like me who hates selling or promoting myself.)
Okay, enough for now. Back to my stories!
